Apps of the Week: three great apps from May 17, 2019

Thousands of apps and games are added to the App Store each week, and trawling through them to find the good ones can be difficult. That’s where we come in! We’ve found two new titles in particular that we think are worthy of your attention, as well as a golden oldie that we reckon deserves another mention.

App of the Week

Meals: Diet Plan, Food Recipes [$3.49/£3.49 per week]

Meals is a diet app that might actually stand a chance of helping you lose weight, courtesy of its clean presentation, intuitive nature, and game-like achievements. It starts by offering a brief quiz to determine the perfect diet for your specific wants and needs. Then it’ll offer up thousands of healthy recipes, complete with a full nutritional breakdown, for you to save to your Me folder.

Game of the Week

The Gardens Between [$5/£5]

This breathtakingly beautiful puzzler has you manipulating time to guide a pair of young friends through a magically flooded world. The game features a tactile control system that sees you physically scrubbing through segments of time with a touch and drag motion. It might be a port, but The Gardens Between looks and feels like a perfectly natural fit for mobile, and it could well be your next obsession.

Microsoft Outlook [Free]

Who would have thought that the best email app for your iPhone would come not from Apple but from historic rival Microsoft? Many would argue that’s the case with Outlook, which mutated from the beloved third-party app Acompli after Microsoft acquired it in 2014. From its focused inbox to its deeply integrated calendar function, all tied together by a crisp interface, Outlook is a power user’s dream.
