Apps of the Week: three great apps from November 22, 2019

  • by

Thousands of apps and games are added to the App Store each week, and trawling through them to find the good ones can be difficult. That’s where we come in! We’ve found two new titles in particular that we think are worthy of your attention, as well as a golden oldie that we reckon deserves another mention.

App of the Week

Toolbox Pro for Shortcuts [Free, $6/£6 Premium tier]

One of the most overlooked additions to iOS 13 is Shortcuts as a default app. This app (and accompanying widget) lets you set up various automated functions on your iPhone. Toolbox Pro adds a bunch (around 50) more of these tools, including the likes of a document scanner, a text recognizer, image filters, and even one that will remove duplicate list entries. Toolbox Pro essentially supercharges the Shortcuts app in one fell swoop – especially if you pay the one-off IAP to unlock the full range of tools.

Game of the Week

The Wanderer: Frankenstein’s Creature [$4/£4]

The Wanderer is a beautiful point & click narrative game that stands apart through its stunning painterly art style. And we mean that quite literally – developer La Belle Games has explicitly drawn inspiration from 19th century paintings. The game itself retells the story of Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein from the perspective of the mistreated and shunned creature as it wanders across Europe. The landscapes evolve according to the creature’s mood, and your own narrative decisions will shape the resolution of the story.

ProCamera [$8/£8 per month]

The iPhone 11 Pro finally introduced ‘Pro’ to the Apple smartphone lexicon, and without doubt the most Pro-worthy component is its stunning triple-camera. We still wouldn’t call the stock Camera app especially Pro-leaning, but that all changes with the addition of the suitably named ProCamera. Long a favorite of advanced photographers, ProCamera adds full manual control via a stylish yet low key UI. It’s particularly great for controlling every last element of your video capture.
