Apps of the week: three great apps worth your time

  • by

Thousands of new apps are released every week, and it can be hard to track down the ones that are worth your attention. That’s where we come in.

We’ve spotted a few things over the last week or so we’d like to share with you, including two new apps and one big update. Let’s take a look!

Florence – $3/£3

After something a little different? Why not immerse yourself in the beautifully illustrated world of Florence, a slice-of-life tale of first love and all that entails. This is an experience which puts story first, with mini-games peppered throughout to make this a kind of interactive graphic novel. This is the first independent app from the lead designer of Monument Valley, and it shows in the attention to detail and heart found throughout Florence.

Chineasy Cards – Free + IAP

Ever wanted to learn Chinese? If you’ve considered it but were put off because it looked too darned hard, think again. This new app seeks to make it easier than ever to learn and remember the notoriously complex symbols and words that make up the Chinese language, using a proven system of flash cards and associative learning. It’s free to try and then $2/£2 per month after the first eight lessons.

Folar – $4/£4

All the fun of an instant camera with none of the expense and no need to lug an extra device around everywhere you go. Folar approximates a full polaroid-esque experience from your iPhone – snap a shot, wait a minute for it to develop, and scribble over the finished effort in marker pen. And if you’re feeling impatient, you can even shake your iPhone to make it develop faster, just like the good old days!
