Unfold is an iOS app that’s increasingly taking the App Store by storm. It’s been rocketing up the charts in recent months, and no wonder: the free iOS app promises a beautiful and elegant toolkit for storytellers. But does Unfold deliver? We decided to take a closer look to find out.

The stand-out feature in Unfold is its support for stylish templates which can be used to arrange and present your photographic “stories.” If you’re a big Instagrammer, or just someone who enjoys sharing moments and memories in a more engaging way, Unfold may well be a must-have app.

Unfold allows users to take regular old snaps, and turn them into beautiful stories using a range of different templates.

You can begin to create a project in Unfold upon launching the application. After giving your story a title, the app asks you to choose your first template; there are a number of different designs to choose from, with even more available in separate IAP packs. Templates can incorporate a single image or multiple images, and text can be added for photographs which require a little more information.

You can manage multiple stories at once, adding pictures into different collections as you go, before deciding whether or not to publish to Instagram or share with friends.

The additional packs will allow Unfold users to take their stories to the next level, with each pack focusing on a particular style or theme (there’s the FF1 pack, for instance, which is inspired by analog photography, or the “minimal and elegant” CS3 pack). The prices aren’t outlandish, either, with most packs costing a buck or two. Of course, you can always use Unfold free of charge, thanks to the default pack which is available free from the get-go.

There are a handful of IAP packs available for users to pick up. But Unfold does come with a free collection of stunning templates, meaning a purchase isn’t necessarily required.

After you’ve added multiple templates to your story, you can preview it or save it to your device. It is also possible to jump back into pre-constructed stories to add additional pictures, and Unfold also features a “send to Instagram” button in order to publish your creation as a dedicated Instagram Story.

You can save your creation, or post it directly to Instagram from the app.

Although there’s clearly a heavy focus on Instagram here, Unfold will save stills to the Photos app, and in this respect it’s possible to send your creation elsewhere (like to a document or presentation, for example). However, this will require a trip to the Photos app, as no further sharing functionality is built into this version of Unfold.

So, to take your Instagram Stories to the next level, consider downloading Unfold. It’s a solid app that features some nice free templates, and which includes a number of impressive packs for additional fees. If you enjoy publishing the occasional Instagram Story or two, this is definitely the app for you.
