Apple join Instagram: “Shot on iPhone” expands to social media

Apple has officially joined Instagram

The iPhone is the most popular camera in the world, and Apple is celebrating that fact on its new Instagram account.

Unlike its more serious presence on other social media platforms, it looks as though this account exists purely to showcase outstanding iPhone photography. Already there are some stunning examples to look through – Instagram users can follow @apple to see the full range, but even if you don’t have an account it’s worth checking out the full set of images online.

This photography showcase looks to be an extension of Apple’s “Shot on iPhone” campaign, which has previously cherry-picked the best iPhone photographs for use in ad campaigns.

What’s exciting for amateur photographers is that it looks as though anyone can get involved if their shots are good enough. Apple is encouraging users to tag their best pictures with #ShotoniPhone to “take part.” Presumably, that means the account will be plucking out photos on a more regular basis than ever for exposure on its account. And with a global audience that’s sure to grow into the millions, who could blame you for wanting in?
