Apple set to launch 9.7-inch iPad Pro in March

Apple could be about to launch a new 9.7-inch iPad Pro at a live event previously reported as taking place on March 15.

The latest detail, which has been reported by 9to5Mac, suggests that Apple will be ditching the ‘Air’ name in favor of importing new features made available via the 12.9-inch iPad Pro, which was released last November, and switching to the ‘Pro’ moniker instead.

As a result, it’s believed that this next-generation iPad will come with the A9X processor and significant RAM upgrades, alongside new display technology allowing the support of the 12.9-inch model’s Apple Pencil accessory.

It’s also believed that the larger models quad stereo speakers, and a smaller version of its Smart Keyboard will also make the jump down to a 9.7-inch iPad Pro model.

The report also believes the new device will ship soon after Apple’s March 15 event, perhaps as soon as March 18.

The potential for Apple here is to simplify its iPad product line. The worldwide tablet market is not as significant as producers would hope, though Apple remains clear leaders in the field, so this could be an opportunity to consolidate between the iPad mini, iPad Air, and iPad Pro.

We’ll be covering the live even in March, so be sure to follow us on Twitter to get the very latest updates.
