First look at new Steve Jobs movie

Universal Pictures has released the first teaser trailer for the upcoming Steve Jobs biopic, starring Michael Fassbender as the late Apple CEO. Check it out below.

The film, simply titled Steve Jobs, is directed by Danny Boyle and features a cast including Seth Rogen as Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak and Kate Winslet as Joanna Hoffman, one of the founding members of the Macintosh team. It will be set backstage across three of Apple’s biggest product launches, with flashbacks to show some of the earlier days of the company.

Promisingly, the screenplay is by Aaron Sorkin, writer of The West Wing and The Social Network – a man with experience portraying a polarizing technology entrepreneur. However, the screenplay is based on the bestselling 2011 biography by Walter Isaacson – which both Tim Cook and Jony Ive have heavily criticized, with Cook claiming the book did a “tremendous disservice” to Jobs. It will be interesting to see what the reaction to the film will be from current Apple staff, and how closely Sorkin has chosen to stick to the original material.

A previous Jobs biopic was released only two years ago and met with a lukewarm response. Fassbender may not look as much like Jobs as Ashton Kutcher did in 2013’s Jobs, but hopefully the new film will be more faithful to the man in other ways. Steve Jobs premieres October 9 2015.
