Time to change Podcast-player? Castro gets new features AND a price-cut

Castro is one of the key players in podcasts on the App Store. Though Apple bundles its own Podcast-player in iOS, many third-party developers take a different approach to listening, and Castro’s is one of the most intriguing. Taking an inbox-based approach, users receive new podcast episodes in an email-style cascade. They then choose whether to download and send to a playlist, or delete. It’s a great triage-style approach for those that don’t listen to every episode of the podcasts they listen to. We recently reviewed the app, which you can read here.

Now, it’s updated to version 2.2, adding new features, and reducing the price. Here’ the list of new features:

CarPlay integration – if you have CarPlay you can now access your podcasts via Castro. Having two lists – one for inbox and another for playlist means there’s less controls to fiddle around with when driving.

New widget – widget displays a grid of artwork for the next few queued episodes which you can tap on to play quickly from the iOS 10 lock or Home screen.

New Quick actions – hard-pressing on the app icon using 3D Touch now displays more options. First, it contains a smaller version of the Today view widget to quickly access episodes, as well as quick access to the Queue, Inbox, Sleep Timer, Search and feedback.

Finally, the app has been reduced from $4.99 to $3.99.

Fancy giving Castro a shot? Download it from the App Store now.
