Apple has just sold its 1 billionth iPhone

Apple has now sold more than 1 billion iPhones across the globe.

The news was revealed during an employee meeting in Cupertino, California, during which Apple CEO Tim Cook spoke to employees.

It was reported earlier in the week that Apple was fast approaching the incredible milestone, and reaching it will no doubt boost confidence in the company as overall iPhone sales slow down.

TechCrunch reported the news, revealing a little of what Cook said to employees during the meeting. The TechCrunch article quotes Cook as saying:

“We never set out to make the most, but we’ve always set out to make the best products that make a difference,” Cook said, holding number one billion aloft for the crowd, during a not especially understated address. “Thank you to everyone at Apple for helping change the world every day.”

Despite concerns over future sales surrounding the iPhone 7, it’s important to note that it took Apple seven years to get to half a billion, and just two more to get to this point. Whatever way you look at it, Apple has achieved a great deal with the iPhone.
