Travel apps are among the most common pitches that land in my inbox, but Journeybot is the one that’s impressed me the most. I’m a serial forgetter of things, so anything that helps me pack quickly and efficiently is a major help. I put it to the test across a couple of similar trips to see whether it could keep me from leaving anything behind.
The headline feature is the smart packing list. Tell Journeybot where you’re going, when, how you’re getting there, and what you’ve got planned, and it builds a checklist tailored to the trip. It automatically tracks the weather at your destination – using historical seasonal data if your trip is further out – so it knows whether to make room for sunscreen or a raincoat.
The results are impressive, pretty much nailing exactly what I needed. That wasn’t always the case: an earlier version I tested tended to overprepare, at one point recommending 90 items for a weekend at a friend’s house. The dev told me that’s partly by design, as an “better safe than sorry” approach – and thankfully it’s very easy to remove unnecessary items from the list. But that overprep bias has since been refined, and the suggestions are now far more sensible. I also liked that everything’s neatly sorted into categories to make the actual packing simpler.
I did run into some bugs when toggling on the Apple Intelligence integration, which is supposed to level up the packing list even further. Thankfully, leaving that switch off gives you a much faster list generation that still hits all the right notes – and I imagine it will be fixed in the next update anyway.
You don’t have to lean on the AI at all if you’d rather not. There are plenty of ways to build a list without it ever feeling overwhelming, including adding items manually or picking from pre-made templates. Each trip builds off the last, too, as you save your own personal templates for certain trip types, so before long you’ll have a go-to list for city breaks, business trips, or weekends away.
Beyond packing, there are some handy extras: destination plug types, a currency converter that works offline, and a Baggage Check feature that flags batteries and power banks before you reach airport security. There are also nice countdown widgets for your Home Screen, styled like boarding passes, that show how your packing is coming along.
The presentation is lovely throughout. Solo developer Michal Ferák built Journeybot while preparing for a month-long trip to New Zealand, and there’s loads of attention to detail for a one-person effort. The UI has plenty of personality without going overboard on custom elements, and it’s really nice looking without ever feeling generic.
Pricing isn’t obscene, either. The free tier limits you to three journeys and a single smart packing list, and honestly the app is very useful even at this level. Premium unlocks unlimited journeys, smart lists, and templates.
What you end up with is a neat checklist that ensures you won’t forget anything, wrapped in an app that’s a pleasure to use. If you’re the kind of person who always realizes what’s missing halfway to the airport, Journeybot is well worth a download.
