Apps of the Week: our favorites from Feb 1, 2019

Thousands of apps and games are added to the App Store each week, and trawling through them to find the good ones can be difficult. That’s where we come in! We’ve found three titles in particular that we think are worthy of your attention this week.

SLIQ Bow Shooting [free]

Created by a solo indie developer who felt tired of generic tap-based games, SLIQ is an on-rails shooter that forces players to get physical while playing. The game plays out aboard a slow-moving rollercoaster that moves you through the levels while you focus on hitting a series of moving targets. Everything is handled with simple swipes as you nock, aim, draw, and release to fire a volley of arrows as accurately as you can. It can take a few moments to get the hang of it but is supremely satisfying when you do!

Starlit on Wheels [free]

Nintendo has just announced a delay to its long-awaited Mario Kart for iOS game, but if you just can’t wait until Summer to get your hands on some fast-paced paced kart-racing action, Starlit on Wheels has you covered. It’s a rare racing game in that it has a full story mode in addition to online championships and a shareable create-a-track mode. Oh, and you’ll need to get used to each character’s special powers to take down the boss battles!

7Mind Meditation [free + subscription]

This app promises to help you deal with stress, anxiety, and frustration in just seven minutes a day. The developers say that meditation is to brain hygiene what brushing your teeth is to dental hygiene, and they’ve developed a program to help people new to the idea get to grips with building a new daily habit. A subscription plan unlocks access to a huge series of themed and guided meditations, but you can give it a whirl for free.
