Apps of the Week: three great apps from January 3, 2020

Thousands of apps and games are added to the App Store each week, and trawling through them to find the good ones can be difficult. That’s where we come in! We’ve found two new titles in particular that we think are worthy of your attention, as well as a golden oldie that we reckon deserves another mention.

App of the Week

Tayasui Calligraphy [$2/£2]

A beautiful and simple drawing app that places various calligraphy ink pen and brush strokes at your fingertips. Apple Pencil is also supported for that extra tactile precision on iPad. Whichever device you use the interface is suitably stripped back, allowing the tools and your creativity to take center stage. We’ve written about Tayasui Sketches a fair amount before as one of the finest sketching apps on iOS, and Tayasui Calligraphy looks to be a worthy and more specialized follow-up.

Game of the Week

Ballistikk [Free]

Ballistikk is like a combination of mini-golf and lawn darts. You’re still putting balls through tight isometric courses, using a familiar drag-and-release control system. But rather than aiming for a hole you must bring the ball to a halt in point-multiplying areas, while there are also bonuses that can be collected along the way. Add in the game’s abstract and colorful visual style, and it’s not quite like any golf game you might have played before.
