Apps of the Week: three great apps from June 14, 2019

Thousands of apps and games are added to the App Store each week, and trawling through them to find the good ones can be difficult. That’s where we come in! We’ve found two new titles in particular that we think are worthy of your attention, as well as a golden oldie that we reckon deserves another mention.

App of the Week

Filmm [Free tier or $20/£20 yearly]

Filmm is a new effort from a veritable supergroup of creative video types. Lifestyle YouTuber Zoe Sugg has teamed up with the founders of lifestyle website A Beautiful Mess to produce what appears to be a slicker-than-average video editing app. As you might imagine given the pedigree, it’s all very much geared towards making your videos look as stylish and aspirational as possible, with beautiful filters mixed in with more advanced tools like color adjustment curves.

Game of the Week

Sprint RPG [Free]

Nitrome has long been one of the most prolific and playfully experimental mobile game developers on the App Store. Its games always have a simple arcade heart, though, and so it proves with Spring RPG. While it might look like a stodgy old first-person RPG, Sprint RPG is actually a breathless dash of a dungeon crawler that places the onus on quick and accurate button inputs. It’s like Whack-a-mole, but with a particularly adventurous spirit.

Pocket [Free]

Why use Pocket in a post-Reading List world? Simple: it’s a more fully featured read-it-later app that works across platforms. Share a web article to Pocket, and the next time you open the app it’ll be there waiting for you to read. Not only that, but it will be available offline (perfect for air travel) and formatted for your iPhone. With Pocket you can also search your saved articles, gain article recommendations, and even have your articles read back to you.
