App

Thousands of apps and games are added to the App Store each week, and trawling through them to find the good ones can be difficult. That’s where we come in! We’ve found two new titles in particular that we think are worthy of your attention, as well as a golden oldie that we reckon deserves another mention.

App of the Week

Pokémon Smile [Free]

Getting kids to brush their teeth can be like, well, pulling teeth. This app from the The Pokemon Company should do the trick. Using simple AR tricks, cute graphics, and the world-famous Pokémon franchise, Pokémon Smile will have them scrubbing in no time. Brushing your teeth in from of the game’s viewfinder will allow you to defeat enemy bacteria and collect more Pokémon, all while your favorite critter sits on your head. This one might just get a few adults brushing more too.

Game of the Week

Slay the Spire [$10/£10]

We’ve been looking forward to this one for quite some time. Slay the Spire is a deck building roguelike RPG (deep breath), and is arguably the greatest game of its kind. And this is a prestigious sub-genre that’s produced the likes of Void Tyrant, Meteorfall, and Card Crawl. The game sees you taking part in highly strategic and surprisingly varied turn-based battles using a steadily growing deck of cards. It might have been made for PC, but Slay the Spire feels like it’s finally come home on iOS.
