More from the App Store – great apps you might have missed [22 October 2021]

Thousands of apps and games are added to the App Store each week, and trawling through them to find the good ones can be difficult. That’s where we come in! We’ve found two new titles in particular that we think are worthy of your attention, as well as a golden oldie that we reckon deserves another mention.

App of the Week

Wisdom [Free]

Wisdom is an audio app that links you up with more than 10,000 experts in a wide variety of fields. Straight from sign-up you’ll find yourself listening in to live talks on a range of subjects, which can be swiped between like you’re hopping between radio stations. It’s also possible to then ask those experts questions in a live chat scenario. Subjects encompass parenting, fitness, dating, food, science, and more. Best of all: it’s completely free to sign up to and use.

Game of the Week

Townscaper [$4.99/£4.49]

Townscaper is a city builder without the exacting ruleset and labyrinthine mechanics that you’d usually associate with the genre. The developer itself makes the bold claim that there’s “no goal” and “no real gameplay” in Townscaper, so you should really think of it as a relaxing toy. Build your storybook town out of digital building blocks, following your every whim and invariably coming up with a dream holiday destination. It’s quite beguiling, and visually arresting to boot.

Adobe Scan [Free]

There are plenty of good scanning apps on the App Store, but it’s difficult to look past one from the creator of the PDF itself – not to mention Photoshop and Acrobat Reader. Adobe Scan is a powerful tool that automatically scans and converts written text into a digital format. The interface is super-sharp and professional, it’s possible to remove imperfections and reformat your PDFs, and tight integration with Adobe’s other tools allows you to further edit and sign your scans with ease.
