More from the App Store – great apps you might have missed [16 September 2022]

  • by

Thousands of apps and games are added to the App Store each week, and trawling through them to find the good ones can be difficult. That’s where we come in! We’ve found two new titles in particular that we think are worthy of your attention, as well as a golden oldie that we reckon deserves another mention.

App of the Week

Dawn – AI Art [Free]

AI-generated art is having a bit of a moment this year, and though computers still have a way to go before they’ll be taking all our creative jobs, messing around with prompts to test the boundaries of an emergent technology is already pretty entertaining. Dawn isn’t the best AI artist out there, but this app makes it one of the most accessible. And the weird jankiness is all part of the fun, anyway.

Game of the Week

Dice Versa [Free]

A clever dice-matching logic puzzler that plays like a round of Threes! with a Dicey Dungeons facelift. Created in a single weekend for the GMTK Game Jam – which it went on to win, by the way – Dice Versa may be simple, but it’s perfect mobile fare. Easy to learn, hard to master, quick play sessions, no excess fat.

App Store Classic

Ultimate Guitar [Free]

It may be a little bloated these days, with in-app purchases and social video feeds aplenty, but the core offering of the Ultimate Guitar app remains free and completely essential for musicians. It’s still the best place to find tabs and chords for popular songs, and support for ukulele and piano players means you don’t have to be a guitarist to take part. The built-in tuner is good, too.
