More from the App Store – great apps you might have missed [16 July 2021]

Thousands of apps and games are added to the App Store each week, and trawling through them to find the good ones can be difficult. That’s where we come in! We’ve found two new titles in particular that we think are worthy of your attention, as well as a golden oldie that we reckon deserves another mention.

App of the Week

Weather Strip [$1 monthly]

With Apple’s acquisition of Dark Skies last year, one of the most beloved weather apps began the slow assimilation process into the iOS machine. Those looking for a potential third-party alternative might want to check out Weather Strip, with its unique approach to displaying its U.S. National Weather Service (NOAA) data. The app gives you a week-long hourly timeline that shows you a complete forecast at a glance. It’s only available in North America at present, but we’ll be keeping an eye on this one.

Game of the Week

Rabisco [$3/£3]

It might look like a particularly cute Flash game, complete with Crayola graphics and a jaunty Bossa Nova soundtrack, but don’t underestimate Rabisco. It’s got the heart of an arcade classic, even if it does seem to be rather more intent on letting you in gently. Guide your cute creature through a series of top-down levels, collecting stars and avoiding hazards. 100 levels and a fiendish speed run mode ensure a fair amount of replayability, too.

App Store Classic

Star Walk 2 [$3/£3]

The sequel to a seriously beloved iOS app, Star Walk 2 continues the good work of the original in allowing you to point your iPhone or iPad at the night sky to get a real time view of the universe. As educational as it is wondrous, Star Walk 2 is packed full of information on all manner of celestial bodies, from stars and comets to constellations. There’s a lot of talk these days about the potential of augmented reality, but Star Walk was one of the first apps to successfully show AR in all its transformative glory.
