Thousands of apps and games are added to the App Store each week, and trawling through them to find the good ones can be difficult. That’s where we come in! We’ve found two new titles in particular that we think are worthy of your attention, as well as a golden oldie that we reckon deserves another mention.
App of the Week
‘Tis the season for cooking and eating ridiculous amounts of food, so why not do it in style? Cookt is a smart recipes app that’s not just for Christmas, though, with thousands of recipes & cookbooks from top names in the business. Purchase digital cookbooks, filter recipes by ingredients, get step-by-step cooking directions, customize recipes according to serving size, and hook up your grocery list for a comprehensive cooking experience. If nothing else, it’ll give your Holiday cooking a healthy dash of seasoning.
Game of the Week
Alien Isolation [$14.99/£12.99]
We don’t get quite so many direct console ports these days, so it always feels quite special when we do. Alien Isolation is a full-on conversion of a PC and console first-person survival horror game first released in 2014. Based on the famous Alien film series, it sees you guiding Amanda Ripley (the daughter of Sigourney Weaver’s character from the original films) through a claustrophobic space station, avoiding the attention of a deadly Xenomorph. There aren’t many more tense – or technically accomplished – games on the App Store right now.

White Noise [Free]
Anecdotally speaking, sleep quality seems to have taken a major dip in recent years. The combined stress and strain of a global pandemic, layered on top of political friction and financial insecurity, is as good as a triple shot of espresso for keeping you up at night. White Noise has long been a great way to soothe you to sleep, generating more than 50 peaceful sounds over a wide range of frequencies. Choose from jungle sounds, beach waves, a crackling campfire and more, or record and loop your own sounds. You can pay $0.99 to remove the ads, too.
