More from the App Store – great apps you might have missed [4 February 2022]

Thousands of apps and games are added to the App Store each week, and trawling through them to find the good ones can be difficult. That’s where we come in! We’ve found two new titles in particular that we think are worthy of your attention, as well as a golden oldie that we reckon deserves another mention.

App of the Week

Pestle [Free]

This new recipe app promises to do it all for the intrepid cook. Not only will help you collect recipes from anywhere, using the Share menu from your chosen web browser, but it also supplies a shopping list function for when it comes time to put your ingredients where your mouth is. There’s a timer, hands-free guided instructions, a unit converter… the developer seems to have thought of everything. Sign up to Pestle Pro ($0.99/£0.79 per month) and you’ll also get bonus features like a meal planner, a recipe discoverer, and more.

Game of the Week

Astro Blast [Free]

An interesting twist on the classic block puzzler that has you carefully placing blocks in rows, kind of like Tetris without the gravity. However, you’re also planting bomb blocks in amongst them, with the potential for satisfying chain reactions. The idea is to clear a path for your spacecraft to continue its journey, and you’ll also encounter hostile enemies and punishing boss battles along the way. All in all, it’s a fascinating hybrid of tactical and puzzler genres, with a simple sci-fi setting.

AP News [Free]

At a time when many are questioning the trustworthiness of their news sources, it’s worth remembering that the Associated Press has its own very slick news app. AP, is it’s often referred to, is a non-profit cooperative news agency that serves as a supply line of news resources to countless high-profile outlets. Basically, if you can’t trust AP to tell you what’s what, you can’t really trust anyone. The AP News app itself is suitably crisp, clean and professional, with customized news alerts and an unmatched library of award-winning photos, videos, and articles to trawl through.
