More from the App Store – great apps you might have missed [9 July 2022]

Thousands of apps and games are added to the App Store each week, and trawling through them to find the good ones can be difficult. That’s where we come in! We’ve found two new titles in particular that we think are worthy of your attention, as well as a golden oldie that we reckon deserves another mention.

App of the Week

Niantic Campfire [Free]

At a base level, Niantic Campfire answers a need that’s been present ever since the launch of Pokémon Go way back in 2016 – that of a social media app for coordinating raids and otherwise communicating with fellow players in your area. Niantic goes beyond that though, working across all of the company’s AR-driven games, and more generally serving as a location-first social network.

Game of the Week

SHI•RO: Midori [$1.99/£1.79]

This sequel to 2018’s highly regarded puzzler SHI•RO combines zen-like puzzle mechanics with a strong narrative and a beautiful Japanese lacquerware-like art style. Each abstract puzzle plays out on a green lacquer box with fine details such as rocks, maple trees and spirits. The soundtrack is suitably calming, with the sound of wooden sticks, cracking twigs and swirling seeds joining with Japanese drums to evoke a suitably zen-like ambiance.
