Apps of the Week: three great apps from April 26, 2019

Thousands of apps and games are added to the App Store each week, and trawling through them to find the good ones can be difficult. That’s where we come in! We’ve found two new titles in particular that we think are worthy of your attention, as well as a golden oldie that we reckon deserves another mention.

App of the Week

Plum – Grow your money [Free]

We have AI assistants to help us with managing our schedules and our home life, so why not our finances? Plum markets itself as just such a thing. While this iOS app is fresh, it’s not a new service by any means. It originally took up residence in Facebook Messenger, which tells you something of its chatbot trappings. Link your bank account and Plum will start analysing your income and spending. It will then help you to save and invest your money more efficiently, and it also promises to stop you from being overcharged on your bills.

Game of the Week

Rumble Stars [Free]

After the excellent Clash Royale-meets-Angry Birds trappings of Badlands Brawl, developer Frogmind gives us something akin to Clash Royale-meets-soccer. Send out a semi-automated team of animals to try and score more goals than your human-controlled opponent. The key to victory is in the timely introduction of specialized players, whether it’s a dog that faithfully retrieves the ball, a lazy panda who hits a mean shot, or a rampaging bull with eyes only for the nearest opposing player.

VSCO [Free/$20 per year]

VSCO (formerly VSCO Cam) is yet another app that lets you take and edit photos with a range of tools that go beyond Apple’s stock camera UI. But it also goes well beyond that, offering a creative hub where you can meet and share your efforts with like-minded photography fans. While it’s free to get started, you can sign up to a VSCO subscription for a vastly increased library of effects and filters, as well as the ability to pick up tips on advanced shooting techniques from those in the know.
