Thousands of apps and games are added to the App Store each week, and trawling through them to find the good ones can be difficult. That’s where we come in! We’ve found two new titles in particular that we think are worthy of your attention, as well as a golden oldie that we reckon deserves another mention.
App of the Week
MobileFamilyTree 9 [$15/£15]
For anyone fascinated by their genealogy, MobileFamilyTree 9 is a fascinating new option for conducting and presenting family research. It allows you to dive into your history, drawing from billions of genealogical entries. You can then present detailed charts and reports on your findings for sharing with others. As the name suggests, this is the ninth major iteration of the MobileFamilyTree app, and it comes with a major visual spruce up – including the ability to view a virtual family tree in 3D.
Game of the Week
Keep Talking & Nobody Explodes [$10/£10]
This brilliantly original indie gem has you working with a buddy to disarm an elaborately rigged bomb. You’ll need to cut wires, type in codes, and solve puzzles to bypass each module. The only trouble is, there are no instructions on how to tackle any of these things. Well, there are, but they’re stashed away in such a way as to encourage a second player to relay the instructions to you. It’s a thrilling twist on the multiplayer formula, not to mention an absolute hoot when it all inevitably goes wrong.

iA Writer [$9/£9]
iA Writer is one of the best ways to get serious writing for the web done on your iOS device. It’s built around Markdown, an open-source plain text-based language for HTML, which is useful for those occasions where you want to focus on writing alone and strip out all that cumbersome formatting. When you do want to apply basic formatting, iA Writer offers easy text-based shortcuts. iA Writer’s iOS interface is beautifully clean and distraction-free, and it integrates seamlessly with the major cloud storage services.
