Apps of the Week: three great apps from November 1, 2019

Thousands of apps and games are added to the App Store each week, and trawling through them to find the good ones can be difficult. That’s where we come in! We’ve found two new titles in particular that we think are worthy of your attention, as well as a golden oldie that we reckon deserves another mention.

App of the Week

Graphite by BeCasso [$1/£1 per month, Free trial]

Graphite turns your photos into what appear to be hand-drawn pieces of art. We’ve seen this kind of concept before, but DigitalMasterpieces seems to have executed it better than most. Turning your snaps into something a little more rustic and crafted is an extremely fast and intuitive process, with a wide range of sketch, pencil and technical illustration effects on offer. Crucially, these enhancements genuinely look the part. Signing up for the Premium tier also gets you a range of retouch tools and other options.

Game of the Week

Gwent: The Witcher Card Game [Free]

If you haven’t heard of The Witcher through the fantasy novels by Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski, or from the immensely popular RPG games that drew directly from them, then you soon will. Netflix is soon to release a big-budget Witcher TV series starring Henry ‘Superman’ Cavill as the titular monster hunter. In the meantime, play this competitive card game drawn from The Witcher’s universe. It’s extremely slick and involving, and we could very well have the next Hearthstone on our hands.

Opera Touch [Free]

When it comes to web browsing, most of us will simply stick with the Safari app that comes preinstalled on our iPhones. Some of us will download Google’s widely used Chrome browser for continuity’s sake. But spare a thought for Opera, which has presented viable alternatives to the big boys for some years now. Opera Touch is the current effort, with a slick UI that actually makes browsing the web one-handed viable, and sharing with the Opera desktop browser totally seamless.
