Apps of the Week: three great apps from October 4, 2019

Thousands of apps and games are added to the App Store each week, and trawling through them to find the good ones can be difficult. That’s where we come in! We’ve found two new titles in particular that we think are worthy of your attention, as well as a golden oldie that we reckon deserves another mention.

App of the Week

Motif Photos [Free]

Motif has been helping users make customized photobooks on desktop for a while now, and their parent company was Apple’s official printing partner for years. So you can trust these guys to provide high quality prints. What’s more, their new iOS app takes the hard work out of the creation process, too, by automatically scanning your photo library to pick out the best snaps before letting you tweak things to perfection. Everything can be previewed in-app – including dozens of professional layouts – and they ship worldwide. It’s a great excuse to get some of those neglected snaps out of your camera roll and into the real world.

Game of the Week

AR Pong [Free]

Augmented Reality has been around for a few years now, but a great many users still haven’t toyed with it much. Well, now’s your chance – with this entirely free virtual rendition of the classic party game beer pong. Just point your device camera at a flat surface and you can recreate an entire tabletop pong setup, or practice trick shots into a single cup. It’s an awesome way to show off the capabilities of AR, and you can go head-to-head with a friend or a ball-throwing AI that gets better at the game each time you beat it.

Feed Hawk [Free]

Have you found the ideal way to track new content from your favorites blogs and websites, yet? Many apps offer a solution, but Feed Hawk is perhaps the simplest of all, allowing users to track websites via their “RSS feeds” which register each time the site is updated with a new post. RSS has been around for longer than the iPhone, and though it’s not as popular as it once was, for many people it’s still the best way to keep tabs on things. With Feed Hawk, that’s as simple as hitting the share sheet from your favorite website and subscribing via a single button press.
