Apps of the Week: three top picks from Feb 8, 2019

Thousands of apps and games are added to the App Store each week, and trawling through them to find the good ones can be difficult. That’s where we come in! We’ve found three titles in particular that we think are worthy of your attention this week.

The Stillness of the Wind [$5/£5]

The concept of a farming game will either delight or bore you to tears. But The Stillness of the Wind is no Stardew Valley clone. Rather, it’s a beautiful-looking oddity with the kind of profoundly moving narrative that we don’t see too often in mobile gaming. Playing as an elderly farmer you must go about your daily chores in methodical fashion, whilst gleaning what you can about the outside world through correspondence with your distant relatives.

Revolve8 [Free]

Revolve8 is a new mobile-focused strategy game from Sega, which is an exciting sentence for any gamer of a certain age to write. It mixes a certain amount of of JRPG charm into its familiar Clash Royale mix, as you build a deck and lay down powerful hero cards in an attempt to destroy your opponent’s tower. There’s a heavy online multiplayer focus, naturally.

Seeing a stylish pair of sneakers modeled by a good-looking professional in a glossy magazine is one thing. The reality of shlepping into the store and trying them on for yourself is often quite different. Wanna Kicks promises to take the disappointment and uncertainty out of sneaker shopping, using your iPhone’s AR capabilities to show what a fresh pair will look like on your feet.
