App Store discounts: the best Black Friday price drops

Six amazing apps and games gone cheap

Black Friday isn’t long gone, and the savings aren’t restricted to physical goods. Each year you can secure some major savings on top notch apps and games. Of course, it can be difficult to sift the genuine bargains from the digital time wasters on Apple’s overstuffed storefront.

That’s why, instead of our usual ‘More from the App Store’ roundup, this time we’re here to bring you a curated selection of some of the best App Store deals of the Black Friday period. And we’re talking about way more than a few cents here and there.

This year’s selection features some truly premium apps that would ordinarily set you back as much as $60. Jump on them quickly, before those prices jump back up to prohibitive levels.

Note that by the time you read this, some of these apps will have returned to their original prices – but often the Black Friday sales stick around into the festive period, so check ’em out!

SPHAZE: Sci-fi puzzle game

Was $5/£5, now $2/£2

A brilliant puzzler that sees you rotating maze-like contraptions to ease the progress of a little robot. If you’re a fan of Monument Valley’s gentle clunk–click conundrums, this is a great next step.

Carbo

Was $8/£8, now FREE

Carbo is an app that lets you capture and archive handwritten notes. Just scrawl away as usual, and use Carbo’s visualization software to digitize them, with uncannily sharp results. Read our review.

ELOH

Was $3/£3, now $1/£1

Another gentle puzzler classic, this time with a pronounced sense of rhythm. Position blocks to deflect a stream of bouncing balls into position, creating a symphony of percussive sounds along the way. Read our review.

FineScanner AI–PRO

Was $60/£60, now $18/£18

FineScanner has long been considered one of the finest document scanning apps around, with class-leading optical character recognition (OCR). Unfortunately, it’s always had a price tag to match – until now.

Agent A: A puzzle in disguise

Was $6/£6, now $1/£0.50

This impossibly stylish point–and–click adventure game wraps its simple, primary-colored puzzles up in a sharp send-up of classic spy capers. Think a more cerebral (and refreshingly female-led) James Bond.

Auria Pro – Music Production

Was $50/£50, now $25/£24

For serious music production, iPad apps don’t come much bigger or better than Auria Pro. If you find yourself in the position where Apple’s GarageBand simply isn’t meeting all your needs, this is the logical next step – especially at half price.
