We reviewed CARROT Weather way back when version 1.0 launched in 2015, and though at the time it lacked some advanced weather features, we were sold on its charm: “if you want to find out about the weather from a steely computer overlord, this is the app for you.”
Unlike other weather forecasts, this one is delivered by a snarky artificial intelligence with a distaste for humans. It adds a layer of amusement to the boring task of checking the weather, diverging from the ultra-serious norm of these sorts of apps.
Since then the app has gone from strength to strength, and its latest update cements its place as one of the best forecasting apps on iOS. New features added in version 4.0 include a brand new redesign, saved locations, storm radar, personality modes, lots more secret locations to find, and many more lines of amusing dialog from CARROT herself. It’s still as fun as ever, but over the last two years, it’s become a seriously powerful weather app as well.
“Premium Club” is now available to all users, a subscription service offering some additional features: customization, an alternative weather data source, and Apple Watch background updates. For most users, though, the standard features will be more than enough.
