Get cooking: three great recipe apps

Summertime always gives us the urge to cook up something fresh and delicious, and like most things in life – there’s an app for that. Hundreds, in fact, and it can be hard to know where to start when searching for meal ideas.

While there is a huge range of recipe apps out there, here are three of our favorites that cover a broad range of needs.

For near-infinite choice

You can’t go far wrong with Yummly (free), a recipe aggregator that includes over 2 million recipes from around the web. If you tend to Google recipe ideas when you’re ready to cook, try switching to Yummly instead – it’ll help you keep track of your favorites in a single place, as well as offering ways to filter your searches by your tastes and dietary needs. It can also recommend recipes to you based on your previous likes, or by analyzing what you’ve got in the cupboards!

For learning new skills

Kitchen Stories (free) combines delicious recipes with a vast array of clear and concise tutorial videos. These cover everything from essential knife skills to making homemade stocks and doughs, and really back up the app’s “anyone can cook” motto. Even an experienced cook can learn some new techniques here. We also appreciate the difficulty guides and beautiful photography included with each recipe.

For veggies and omnivores

It’ll set you back a couple of bucks, but Oh She Glows ($2/£2) – based on the blog of the same name – is our favored app for vegetarian and vegan dishes. Not only is it packed full of healthy and delicious recipes, but the presentation is particularly beautiful, making it a joy to refer to while you’re knocking up plant-based treats. Using the app is akin to reading a fancy cookbook, with stunning imagery and high-quality recipes throughout.
