We don’t tend to cover all that many role-playing games here, but Marvel Future Revolution is something a bit special. It’s a big-budget, console-quality (at least visually) MMORPG fronted by some of the most recognizable characters in recent cinematic history.
Take control of a hand-selected team of Marvel’s finest, including Spider-Man, Iron Man, Captain Marvel, Dr Strange, and more. Then guide your super crew into a massive open-world environment filled with missions, special events, and other real-life players.
While this is partly a stat-driven action RPG, combat takes place in real-time. There’s an emphasis on dodging and constant movement as you wait for your devastating powers to become available.
Each character is fully voiced, and there’s a strong narrative at the heart of the game, with a story penned by Marvel writer Marc Sumerak. Besides unlocking the next slickly produced cutscene, you’ll be rewarded with a series of unique costumes for your heroes, which can then be mixed and matched according to your taste.
The game is free to play, so it shouldn’t surprise you to learn that you’ll encounter virtual currencies and micro-transactions as you sock bad guys in the chops.
