Moonbeam – discover podcasts through curated snippets

Developer: Moonbeam Technologies
Price: Free
Size: 39 MB
Version: 1.5
Platform: iPhone & iPad

Moonbeam has been out for approaching a year now, but it’s one of those classy apps that slipped through our net the first time around. The recent arrival of a version 1.5 update seems like the perfect opportunity to correct that oversight and (pod)cast a little light on a polished gem.

This is a podcast discovery app that pulls out curated podcast highlights just for you. After signing up for free and choosing three or more topics that interest you (comedy, history, music, etc.), the app will send you a series of short clips related to your tastes.

The first podcast snippet of around 5-minutes or so will start playing immediately, and you can simply swipe up to flick to the next one. Use the tabs along the top to filter for specific topics. It’s all incredibly intuitive.

You can also tap on an individual clip to dive deeper into the source podcast, pulling up full episodes to download and listen to. There’s also a provision to import podcasts from other platforms like Apple Podcasts.

The recent 1.5 update adds a new ‘Discover’ feature, which provides curated clip suggestions handpicked by the Moonbeam team. It’s a great place to start if you’re new to the whole podcast thing.
