More from the App Store – great apps you might have missed [4 June 2021]

Thousands of apps and games are added to the App Store each week, and trawling through them to find the good ones can be difficult. That’s where we come in! We’ve found two new titles in particular that we think are worthy of your attention, as well as a golden oldie that we reckon deserves another mention.

App of the Week

Philips Hue [Free]

There’s been a Philips Hue app around for years of course – this is the leading brand of smart lighting on the market. But Version 4.0 of the app is all new, having been rebuilt from the ground up. The controls have been rejigged and streamlined, with commonly used buttons placed within easier reach and an improved room overview. The app has received a new lick of paint too, with improved performance and animation. If you’ve yet to jump in with a smart lighting ecosystem, this is a great place to start.

Game of the Week

Overboard! [$6/£6]

New from the team behind the wonderful 80 Days comes Overboard!, a typically stylish whodunnit with a twist: you play the murderer. It’s up to you, as actress Veronica Villensey, to cover your tracks and pin the blame for the death of your no-good wealthy husband on one of five fellow passengers on your voyage. Sell the ruse and claim the life insurance in this refreshingly open-ended narrative puzzler, in which every character you meet has agency of their own.

PlayStation App [Free]

If you’ve been following the App Store news, you’ll be aware that Sony is looking to bring some of its top PlayStation IP to iOS in the form of brand new mobile games. But the company has long had a presence on the App Store – and indeed your iPhone – through the PlayStation App. This handy tool lets you chat and message with your friends, shop for games for your PS4 or PS5 (which will then automatically download), manage your storage, and more.
