Brainsparker Creativity Cards is the perfect app for anyone who’s experienced a feeing of being “stuck” in their work – whether that work is learning, teaching, writing, or creating. Creative blocks are hard to navigate around, but Brainsparker takes a novel approach: through presenting users with randomly shuffled creativity prompts, the app hopes to ignite a spark of inspiration to help you get past your mental block.

When you first launch the app, you can choose from a series of card packs – these can also be accessed using the menu button in the top-left of the screen. Here, options include Brainsparker’s starter pack, a kids pack, and a vision pack. The starter pack might be a good place to begin – it serves up thoughtful, insightful, and inspirational comments for you to ponder, which might help you think differently about the situation you’re currently in.
You can shuffle your card pack by shaking your device, and it’s also possible to share or “favorite” cards that resonate with you. Moving through different cards is as simple as swiping on your device’s screen.

The kids pack, in particular, is worth a mention. This pack of 150 cards includes creative activities to do with your kids at home – they’re inventive, creative, and could lead to a whole afternoon of thought and work! Though Brainsparker isn’t a new app, this is one of several new packs added during the pandemic to make home working and home schooling easier to deal with.
More card packs are available to purchase in-app if you really dig Brainsparker – these include more nuanced packs, like a dialog pack (which includes prompts for creating dialog between characters), a gulp pack (for facing your fears), and a positive pack (which includes affirmations and positive statements). These will set you back $1/£1 apiece, or a $3/£3 IAP unlocks all current and future packs, which is a pretty good deal.

Elsewhere, Brainsparker offers a “daily spark,” which lets users configure a random card to appear at 09:00, 13:00, and/or 16:00 – it’s a nice addition, especially if you find it hard to pause and reflect during a busy working day. And users also have the option of signing up for one of Brainsparker’s courses – these come at an additional cost, but could take your productivity to a whole new level.

All in all, Brainsparker Creativity Cards is a nifty little tool for injecting a dose of inspiration into whatever you’re doing, whenever you’re doing it. With hundreds of digital cards within easy reach, creativity blocks really could – once and for all – become a thing of the past.
