LogoMetric is a mini design studio to help you create logos for use in digital and print branding. If you’re running an event or a small business that needs a slick logo but you don’t have the cash to hire a professional, this app can help you make something that looks good without any particular design experience.

Make your budding brand more professional in just a couple of minutes

The workflow is pretty straightforward: pick from the app’s extensive library of starter templates, adjust the colors and sizing to your liking and add some slick text. That’s pretty much all there is to it, and even newbies will find themselves able to knock together a nice logo within minutes.

When you’re finished, designs are saved to the camera roll at a high resolution, either with or without an accompanying background. They can then be dropped into any other app or piece of desktop software. There’s no way to save projects, though, so if you make a logo and then want to slightly tweak it later, you’ll have to recreate the graphic from scratch.

Swipe through well over 200 potential logos

The templates themselves are split into three categories – geometric, abstract, and type – though truthfully they’re all cut from more or less the same style handbook. These distinctions are more to help you narrow down your search for an appropriate logo. Most of the 200+ logos are formed of colorful, semi-transparent shapes, circling and overlapping each other. They’re pleasant, and well produced.

Despite the visual similarities, the range is varied and includes recognizable icons, swirling geometric abstractions, and alphabetic lettermarks. Leaf through the catalog until you find a graphic you like the look of, and then it’s onto the editing stage!

The lettermarks aren’t half bad

Your chosen emblem can be resized and rearranged, plus you can adjust the colors with a series of RGB sliders. Changing these isn’t an exact science, but it’s fun to toy around with the colors until you get exactly what you’re looking for. It’s a shame that the app doesn’t offer any further customization, though – you can’t combine the templates, or build up your own geometric composition from a library of parts. The font selection is pretty strong, though, and manipulating text is easy.

For an app specializing in graphic design, some of the user interface choices are a little ropey. Swiping through designs one by one isn’t particularly efficient, and we see no reason the undo and redo buttons need to be hidden away behind a tab at the top of the screen. Beyond that, though, using the toggles and sliders here to make adjustments is pretty intuitive and even beginners should be able to make something that looks good.

These color sliders are the only real customization options

We’d recommend this app purely on the basis of your opinion of these screenshots. If you’re into this particular style, the app is a solid performer and will let you make your own similar logo without much fuss. It’s also very useful for mocking up a range of initial ideas to compare with each other. But it’s just not flexible enough to let you branch out creatively beyond its relatively narrow focus.
