Until iOS 18, your Lock Screen always had two Lock Screen controls: Flashlight and Camera. Which was great if you took photos using Apple’s Camera app or frequently used your iPhone to avoid stumbling around in the dark. Less so if you fancied swapping them out for something else.
But now with iOS 18, that’s all possible. This round-up explains how to customize Lock Screen controls, and lists some great apps that support the feature.
How to customize iOS 18 Lock Screen controls
Tap-hold your Lock Screen and then tap Customize. On the Customize Wallpaper screen, tap Lock Screen. At the bottom of the screen, you’ll see the two standard controls. To remove one of them, tap its ‘–’ button.
Next, tap the ‘+’ that replaces the removed control and you’ll see a list of alternatives you can use instead. At the top are those Apple considers useful and important from its own selection. But scroll down and you’ll see controls from third-party apps you’ve installed.
Note that most of these when triggered on the Lock Screen need you to be authorizing your device via Face ID or Touch ID. (In other words, looking at the screen or having your finger on the Touch ID button.) Also, these controls can work with Control Center too – ideal if you like having fast access to some of them, but don’t really want to have them take up Lock Screen slots.
