Tim Cook teases new ‘Air’ product release this week

Update: it’s here.

Tim Cook has posted a rather minimal teaser to social media, suggesting another new product announcement is on its way just a couple of weeks after iPhone 16e was released out of the blue.

We’ve been expecting Apple to have a busy Spring, with several products due a refresh. It looks like next on the agenda will be something with ‘Air’ in the name, with Cook’s animated teaser video simply stating “there’s something in the AIR” along with the text “This week.”

As for specifics? Our best guess from scouring the rumor mill is an update to the MacBook Air, although a new iPad Air is in the works too, so don’t rule that out.

Apple launched the original MacBook Air with the same tagline a whopping 17 years ago, and although this next iteration is expected to be a modest upgrade, it should still offer a decent boost in performance and efficiency as it moves from an M3 chip to the latest M4. Similarly, the next iPad Air is likely to move from an M1 chip to M3.

Aside from that, expect some smaller updates for both products such as a better camera, but no big redesign. Apple saves its biggest product launches for special events, after all – not glorified press releases.

We’ll have the full details just as soon as Apple reveals them, but take this as a sign that if you’re in the market for a new MacBook – or iPad, for that matter – a bit of patience will undoubtedly get you a better deal. Stay tuned.
