Apple updates its free app of the week! Tsuro is now available for free

Tsuro – was $2.99/£2.99, now FREE

Apple has updated its free app of the week, picking the relaxing board game Tsuro: The Game of the Path for the discount treatment. The iOS version of this popular real-life board game only launched last year, and this is the first time it’s gone free –the physical version costs around $20/£20 so to be able to try it out for nothing really is a bargain!

From our time playing Tsuro it’s clear that the app does a good job of recreating the tactile beauty of the original. It’s simple to pick up the rules – place tiles to create a path to move along, without being forced into a dead end by the other players’ paths – but, like Chess or Go, there’s a lot of strategy here if you care to dig deep enough.

One of the best things about the game is how well it translates the intricate artwork of the board game to iOS, with slick animations and fitting music to match the relaxing vibe of the game. You can play Tsuro with friends gathered around a single device, with strangers over the internet, or with AI virtual players of varying difficulty.

Why not give it a pop before the price goes up again? And if you’re into tabletop gaming in general, check out our roundup of the best iOS board game adaptations.
