AirPods Pro 2 update – how to get the latest firmware

Apple has released a new firmware version for the second-generation AirPods Pro.

Version 6A303 is a free update that brings bug fixes and performance improvements, although Apple is quite vague about the specifics. Regardless, it’s a smart idea to stay up to date to ensure your AirPods run as smoothly as possible.

The update is available for both versions of AirPods Pro 2: those with a Lightning port and the newer version with USB-C.

Strangely, there’s no way to trigger a firmware update for your AirPods – the process is completely automated. That said, you can set the stage for an update to ensure it happens ASAP. Updates take place when AirPods are charging and in Bluetooth range of a paired iPhone or iPad. You can also take them to an Apple Store to be updated, although that service is primarily aimed at Android users who can’t do it themselves.

Not sure which firmware your AirPods are running? Simply head to Settings > Bluetooth and tap the i button next to your AirPods. Your current firmware will be listed at the bottom next to Version. Remember this latest version is called 6A303, so anything else means you’re still due an update.
