Apple’s AirTag is a great way to keep track of valuable items through the Find My app, but it has one frustrating downside – the battery only lasts about a year. If you rely on an AirTag to keep tabs on something important, forgetting to swap the battery could mean losing your item when you need it most.
Luckily, there’s a simple way to extend an AirTag’s battery life to a whopping 10 years. An accessory called the TimeCapsule replaces AirTag’s standard coin cell battery with two AA batteries, dramatically increasing its power capacity. This upgrade comes in the form of a durable, waterproof case that makes room for those extra batteries.

How to use the TimeCapsule
First, you’ll need to buy a TimeCapsule which will run you $20 from the ElevationLab website.
You’ll also want some high-quality AA batteries to go with it – Energizer Ultimate Lithium are generally considered to have the best lifespan, but other brands will work too. Make sure they’re rated for long-term durability.
Next, remove the AirTag’s battery cover and safely discard the CR2032 coin cell battery. Place the AirTag inside the TimeCapsule, aligning it with the contacts inside the case.
Insert your AA batteries and carefully screw the case shut, ensuring it’s tightly sealed to keep it waterproof. The end result is significantly bigger than a standard AirTag, but still small enough to hook onto a bag, keychain, bike, or other valuable item.
That’s it – your AirTag is now powered for up to a decade without needing a battery swap!
