Bad news for fans of UK radio station BBC Radio 1. Zane Lowe, veteran of the station is leaving the position next month to join Apple. His role has not yet been confirmed, but it seems likely that it’s to do with iTunes Radio. This is another stepping stone towards launching their revamped Beats Music service.

Lowe has worked at Radio 1 for over a decade, and has won numerous awards for his show, and was nominated for a Grammy Award recently for his role in producing Sam Smith’s “In The Lonely Hour.” He has interviewed the likes of Eminem, Kanye West and Jay-Z – some of the videos of which have been watched millions of times online.

“I want to thank everyone at Radio 1 for their support and friendship. The station has allowed me to share incredible music with the country’s best music fans.”

As ever, Apple is hiring the best talent in the world for their business ventures. Acquiring Beats Music, hiring engineers from Tesla and former Burberry CEO Angela Ahrendts was just the beginning. Let’s see what else Apple has up its sleeve.
