Apple Watch receives iF Design Gold Award

It may not have even launched yet, but the Apple Watch has already been lauded for its design.

In what has previously been described as the Oscar for design, the 2015 iF Design Gold Award has been given to the Apple Watch.

The International Forum (iF) Design said that the Apple Watch features revolutionary new technologies, alongside a pioneering interface.

Apple is no stranger to the iF design awards and is one of the most decorated companies. It first one an award in 1985, and has since notched up over 40 gold awards.

The iPhone 6 and 6 Plus’ design were also recognized, though weren’t awarded gold.

The jury commented on the Watch, stating:

“The idea of combining classic materials such as leather and metal with state-of-the-art technology to create a very individual fashion accessory has resulted in a delightful product offering a holistic user experience. The Apple Watch scores highly for each design detail and is an altogether extraordinary piece of design. For us, it is already an icon.”

The iF design awards have been running since 1953, and products are evaluated on a range of criteria, which includes workmanship, materials, environment factors, brand value, and functionality.

We’re likely to find out much more about the Apple Watch (including a potential release date) at a special Apple media even on March 9. TapSmart will be delivering the news on this as it happens – make sure you follow us on Twitter for the latest.
