Hi! Thanks for reading. This post looks better in our award-winning app, Tips & Tricks for iPhone.
Well that came out of nowhere! Two of the three creators of mega-hit Crossy Road have just launched a new ‘endless arcade flyer’ game as part of a new development team.
Working with additional “game development veterans” as Mighty Games, the men behind one of last year’s biggest App Store hits have released a brand new game called Shooty Skies, with the same ‘voxel’ graphical style as its spiritual predecessor. Check out the promo trailer below for an idea of what’s in store.
It’s a fast-paced shoot-em-up loosely in the vein of arcade classics 1942 and Xevious, featuring the developers’ trademark 3D faux-pixellated stylings. Crossy Road was praised for its addictive gameplay and fair monetization strategy (in-app purchases for for purely aesthetic upgrades like new character models), and by the looks of it the new game follows the exact same conventions.
Crossy Road also won an Apple Design Award at this year’s WWDC and has been downloaded many millions of times – can Shooty Skies compete with its big brother? There’s only one way to find out – the game is available free on the App Store.
