Facebook releases new iOS app: Events from Facebook

Facebook has announced a brand new app. Events from Facebook now offers users the opportunity to interact with event invites and local opportunities in a more focused way.

Until now, Facebook has been great for inviting friends and family to events, but not so great with discovery. However, more and more businesses, festivals, and public events are using Facebook to promote activity – Events from Facebook aims to make it easier for potential attendees to fill up their calendars with exciting activities.

Here’s how the new app works:

First, download the app for free from the App Store.

When you open the app you’re shown a quick catch up screen which shows recently-announced events from Pages that you’ve previously liked on Facebook, alongside updates to events you’ve already accepted invites from, as well as an overview of events people on your friends list are interested in.

However, one of the app’s key and most useful features is discovery. If you’re looking for something to do for the weekend or even at this moment in time, you can get event recommendations. While this feature exists on Facebook already, you can’t specify exactly when or where you want recommendations for events. This app provides far more control and lets you discover events in other cities if you happen to be planning a trip.

The app also has a standalone calendar which lists all your Facebook events. You can also add other calendars from your phone so you can see if you’re busy with something else that doesn’t have a Facebook event. Of course, you can already add your Facebook calendar to iOS’ calendar app, but being able to have all calendars here will save switching between apps.

The app is available on iPhone and iPad and you can find out more and download Events from Facebook on the App Store. Note: The app is currently rolling out in the US only, but it’s expected to make its way to more territories soon. Preview the app in the video below:
