iOS 26.4.1 released to fix iCloud sync problems

Apple has released iOS 26.4.1, and while it’s a small update, it fixes something that was quietly causing real problems for a lot of iPhone users – so it’s worth installing sooner rather than later.

What’s changed

The headline fix is a significant iCloud sync bug that crept in with iOS 26.4. iPhones running 26.4 stopped receiving iCloud change notifications, which broke cloud data sync for apps using Apple’s CloudKit framework – including the built-in Passwords app and many third-party apps that feature iCloud sync.

In practice, that meant changes made on one device wouldn’t automatically show up on your iPhone or iPad. Developers couldn’t do anything but file bug reports and wait for Apple to push a fix. Now it’s here.

The bug affects iPadOS 26.4 as well, though macOS was seemingly not impacted.

In a less prominent change, Apple has also ensured Stolen Device Protection is on by default for all “managed devices” under the control of businesses or schools.

Recent updates

If you missed the last release, iOS 26.4 brought some more exciting changes, including Playlist Playground, new emoji, and under-the-hood improvements to Apple Intelligence. So if you’ve been putting off updating, now’s a good time to catch up to get new features and the latest bug fixes in one fell swoop.

How to update

To install the update, open Settings > General > Software Update and follow the prompts to download and restart your iPhone. If you have automatic updates enabled, it may update on its own when the conditions are right – but it’s quicker to trigger the update yourself.
