Apple has released iOS 26.5.2 and iPadOS 26.5.2, and there’s nothing new to play with – this is purely a security update. But it’s a big one, patching dozens of vulnerabilities, and that alone is reason to install it sooner rather than later.
Security fixes
Apple’s release note is typically vague – “this update provides security fixes for your iPhone” – but digging deeper into Apple’s security page reveals dozens of vulnerabilities addressed across the release. The bulk of them are in WebKit, the browser engine behind Safari that also powers most third-party browsers on iPhone and iPad.
That makes this update worth your attention. WebKit flaws affect just about everyone, and it doesn’t take much to land on a dodgy page that’s been set up to exploit one. None of the issues here are flagged as actively exploited, so there’s no need to panic, but it’s always safer to grab these patches ASAP to ensure you’re not at risk.
Recent updates
If you’ve already installed iOS 26.5, you won’t find any noticeable changes after updating to 26.5.2. If you’ve fallen behind on updates, now’s a good time to catch up on all the stuff added in May’s update, including better message encryption, new suggestions in Maps, and a fancy new wallpaper.
How to update
To install the update, open Settings > General > Software Update and follow the prompts to download and restart your iPhone. If you have automatic updates enabled, it may update on its own when the conditions are right – but it’s quicker to trigger the update yourself.
