Apple has revealed the date of its 2020 iPhone launch event: Tuesday, September 15.

The mass gathering ban in the wake of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic means this will be a virtual event with no live audience, just like the WWDC event back in June. That virtual keynote was a surprising success, with pre-recorded segments filmed straight to camera injecting the reveals with a level of polish and speed rarely seen from Apple’s live events. Hopefully, this iPhone 12 event will be even better.

Of course, we already know that pandemic-related manufacturing issues mean you won’t actually get any new products in your hands until a bit later than usual in the year. Tim Cook confirmed a delay of “a few weeks” before iPhone 12 will be ready to ship, and it’s widely expected the standard and Pro model releases will be staggered. So although we’ll learn all about the new devices on September 15, chances are we’ll be waiting until October for anything to ship.

It’s also worth noting that it’s not just iPhones we’ll see at this event – there are more devices on the horizon that could be announced here too. Most likely is Apple Watch Series 6, though rumor has it there’ll be a new low-cost Apple Watch model released too. iPad Air is due a refresh too, although whether Apple will wait and reveal this via press release later in the year is anyone’s guess. Apple’s new line of Macs with home-grown processors are due this year too, though we’d expect those to be released closer to the end of 2020. Finally, there’s a chance we’ll see Apple’s long-expected AirTag trackers revealed in September.

We’ll also find out exactly when the public release of iOS 14 and iPadOS 14 will be available. The new operating systems have been in beta testing for several months now, but it’s still unclear whether Apple will let them loose the week of the event or wait until the iPhone 12 is available.

You’ll be able to stream the event live from Apple’s website at 10am PDT on Tuesday – but if you miss it, rest assured we’ll keep you up to date with a big recap right here just as soon as the event wraps up.
