Leaks suggest Apple will partner with Samsung for folding iPhone in 2026

Rumors about Apple’s highly anticipated foldable iPhone are heating up again, with new reports indicating Samsung will supply the all-important flexible displays.

Expected to debut around late 2026 or early 2027, the device – tentatively dubbed iPhone Fold by analysts – is said to feature two displays: a large, wide internal screen that folds in two and a smaller external screen, similar to Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold.

Recent leaks from fairly reputable sources suggest the iPhone Fold will have a 7.76-inch main display and a 5.49-inch outer screen. The internal display is thought to feature a hidden under-display selfie camera, with a more conventional camera module on the exterior.

Samsung’s involvement is particularly interesting given its rivalry with Apple in the smartphone market. Despite competing directly, Apple has repeatedly relied on Samsung for critical screen components, such as the OLED panels introduced with the iPhone X. Apple wants the best components no matter what, and Samsung is hard to beat when it comes to display technology. Rumor has it Samsung has mastered a folding display with minimal visible creasing, a crucial factor for Apple’s design team.

iPhone Fold is expected to cost upwards of two grand, perhaps as high as $2300, making it a fairly niche premium device and even more expensive than existing folding smartphones. As such, the regular iPhone isn’t likely to go away any time soon.

As always, these details are far from official, but the repeated and consistent leaks suggest there might be truth to the rumors. Even so, we’ll believe it when we see Tim Cook holding one on stage.
