Latest iPhone Fold leaks point to an iPad mini size and shape

New leaks have once again stirred speculation around Apple’s long-rumored foldable iPhone, hinting that it may end up wider and shorter than many people expect.

Previous guesses have been that we might see something akin to two iPhone Airs welded together, but CAD renders shared by iPhone-Ticker.de show a device that’s completely different proportions. Each half of the foldable said to measure around 4.7 inches tall and 3.3 inches wide, giving the phone a squatter profile than many expected. For comparison, the iPhone Air is roughly 6.1 inches tall and 2.9 inches wide.

When opened, the internal display reportedly measures about 7.8 inches, placing it close to iPad mini territory. That points to Apple prioritizing a tablet-like experience when unfolded, rather than something that feels like two phone-shaped screens joined together. One of the screens individually might look odd that size, but the two together would be familiar and more useful than a regular iPhone.

The schematics also support long-standing claims that Apple is focused on durability. The device is shown as even thinner than iPhone Air when open, but considerably thicker when closed – obviously. The interesting part is there looks to be a small gap between the two sides when folded, which could reflect a hinge design that reduces stress on the display. As ever, these images didn’t come from Apple and should be treated with caution.

Foldables have existed for years, but durability concerns and high prices have kept them niche. If anyone can normalize the idea, it’s Apple – though with rumored pricing well north of $2,000, the regular iPhone clearly isn’t going anywhere anytime soon.
