Jaguar is recruiting engineers through “alternate reality” puzzles in the Gorillaz app

Yes, you read that right: Jaguar, the luxury car company, has teamed up with Gorillaz, the cartoon band, to find its next wave of automotive engineers. This odd partnership takes place within a free mixed reality app launched earlier this year to promote the new Gorillaz album.

It looks as though the testing can be undertaken by anyone for fun, but those who perform well enough may be contacted by Jaguar, which says it’s looking for 5,000 new recruits. The challenge is twofold: firstly, users will be tasked with assembling an upcoming Jaguar electric car in the app; secondly, a series of “alternate reality” puzzles and codes will need to be solved. The first part is basically an ad for the new car as far as we can tell, but the second part is much more interesting, playing out like a kind of code-breaking game. Check out the official recruitment video below for a taste of what’s in store.

This is bizarre but exciting news, and as far as we can tell it’s the first of its kind. If you’re a fan of Jaguar and/or Gorillaz, it’s definitely worth checking out – and even if you’re not, the experimental app has a lot of other fun and unusual things to check out. It’s free, and unlike much else on iOS. You can download it from the App Store.
