Leaked photo shows first glimpse of 4-inch iPhone 5se

A leaked photograph, first seen on Dutch website One More Thing, purports to show an unreleased 4-inch iPhone alongside the existing iPhone 5.

There have been rumors of a new 4-inch iPhone pretty much ever since, well, Apple stopped making 4-inch iPhones in 2014. More recently those rumors have reached fever pitch, with the latest revelation being that a new handset – called the iPhone 5se – will likely be on its way this Spring. The photo, shown below, is the first time we’ve seen the unreleased phone alongside an existing model for comparison.

iPhone 5se – is it real?

So this new photo, if real, confirms a lot of thing we were expecting: that the new device would be the same size as the iPhone 5 but with the aesthetic stylings of the iPhone 6. It seems to show all the hallmarks of the most recent iPhone generation like the curved glass edges, repositioning of the power button and FaceTime camera, and a general rounder and sleeker appearance.

According to 9to5Mac, the iPhone 5se will be a significant upgrade from Apple’s last 4-inch handset, the iPhone 5s. Most notably it’s expected to incorporate the 8MP and 1.2MP cameras from the iPhone 6, the same processing chips as the iPhone 6, an NFC chip to enable Apple Pay, and support for the relatively new Live Photos feature. It doesn’t look as though it will incorporate the 3D Touch functionality of the latest iPhone 6s, though.

While we can’t be certain this isn’t just a very good Photoshop job, we can take some solace from the fact that the author of the post, Gijs Raggers, has previously leaked genuine prerelease photos of the iPad Air and iPad Air 2. So as far as dodgy leaks and rumors go, he’s relatively trustworthy.
