A new emoji set has been approved including superheroes, redheads, and much more. 157 new emoji will be released later this year, but we can preview the whole lot right now.
Over the last few years we’ve seen Unicode introduce a fuller range of skin tones and open up all the job roles to both male and female emoji. One area that still lacked diversity, though, was hair. That’s being remedied in the 2018 update, with the new range including for the first time people with ginger hair, curly hair, grey hair, or no hair at all. About time!
Other additions include new animals, new foods, new activities, and a range of superheroes. Check out the video below for a better idea of what’s to come.
Though the emoji set has been finalized, you probably won’t be able to use the new icons for a little while. The set is slated for release in June and will make their way into iOS sometime after that – most likely September to coincide with the expected release of iOS 12. If you can’t wait that long, you can see more about the 2018 list over at Emojipedia.
